Her Justice Fall Internship Application Period: July 1 to August 31
Her Justice invites rising 2L and 3L law students to apply for our Summer Internship Program. Interns will receive comprehensive training and engage in meaningful casework under the mentorship and guidance of experienced Her Justice staff attorneys. We are looking for candidates with a demonstrated commitment to women’s rights, as well as experience working with underserved communities and/or survivors of intimate partner violence.
This summer, we are offering internship positions within our Family & Matrimonial and Immigration Practice Groups. Please see descriptions of our Family & Matrimonial and Immigration internships below.
The internship period will start on the Tuesday after Memorial Day for a minimum of 10 weeks, 7 hours per day. The application period for the Summer intern position will open on November 24, 2025 and applications will be accepted through January 31, 2026. Interviews will be held on a rolling basis.
Intern Qualifications:
- Law student (rising 2L or 3L)
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; self-starter and highly motivated
- Demonstrated interest in social justice, immigrant rights, domestic violence issues or women’s issues
- Ability to ask questions and work humbly, collaboratively, and independently
- Knowledge of family, matrimonial, or immigration law, as well as fluency in another language, are helpful but not required
Compensation: Her Justice is committed to ensuring our interns are compensated for their time. Law students are highly encouraged to apply for stipends, work-study, school credit, or fellowships that may be available to them. Her Justice will provide a $5,000 stipend for the summer to interns who receive no outside compensation, and will supplement any outside funding, to ensure the intern receives a total of $5,000 for the summer.

The subject line should indicate “Summer Intern Application” and specify which practice group the applicant wants to work with (“Family & Matrimonial” or “Immigration“) so that the Subject line reads: “Summer Intern Application – Family & Matrimonial” or “Summer Intern Application – Immigration.”
Intern applications should consist of a:
- Cover letter/statement of interest, noting any language skills, relevant experiences, practice group interest, and public interest funding (if any);
- Resume;
- Writing sample;
- Unofficial transcript; and
- List of references.
Only applications submitted during the application period will be considered; only applicants considered for the internship will be contacted.
Her Justice will also be participating in the 2026 Public Interest Legal Career (PILC) Fair and interested law students at participating schools may submit their application materials (cover letter & resume) through the PILC Fair portal by the applicable registration deadline or apply directly.
Her Justice invites rising 2L and 3L law students to apply for our Fall Internship Program. Interns will receive comprehensive training and engage in meaningful casework under the mentorship and guidance of experienced Her Justice staff attorneys. We are looking for candidates with a demonstrated commitment to women’s rights, as well as experience working with underserved communities and/or survivors of intimate partner violence, who can support our Family-Matrimonial and Immigration Practice Groups.
The internship period will start in September with a minimum of 10 hours per week for 10 weeks. The application period for the Fall intern position will open on July 1, 2026 and applications will be accepted through August 31, 2026. Interviews will be held on a rolling basis.
Position: Fall interns will work part-time (min. 10 hours per week) for 10 weeks. The position is hybrid and Fall interns are expected to be in the office at least 1 day per week. Interns will be provided with a company-owned laptop to be used exclusively for Her Justice-related work.
Interns work under the supervision of Her Justice staff attorneys to support the Family-Matrimonial and Immigration Practice Groups. Responsibilities will vary depending on the intern’s interests and the program needs of Her Justice. The intern will learn trauma informed lawyering skills through casework and client interactions and will also learn the foundations of family, matrimonial, and immigration law. Responsibilities may include:

Interfacing with clients on immigration, divorce, or family court matters;

Drafting pleadings or applications;

Researching case law and writing legal memoranda;

Reviewing and analyzing supporting evidence; and
-
Preparing responsive papers to be filed with the court or administrative agency.

Her Justice Pro Bono Scholar Placement Application Period: July 1 to August 31
Her Justice proudly supports the New York State Pro Bono Scholar Program as a host organization. Pro Bono Scholars are invited to submit an application for a Spring 2027 placement with Her Justice. Pro Bono Scholars will receive comprehensive training in the areas of family, matrimonial, and immigration law, and engage in research, projects, and casework under the mentorship and guidance of experienced Her Justice staff attorneys.
The Pro Bono Scholar placement period will start the first week of March for 12 weeks. The application period for Pro Bono Scholars will open on July 1, 2026 and applications will be accepted through August 31, 2026. Interviews will be held on a rolling basis.
Pro Bono Scholar Qualifications:

Law student (rising 3L) who has been accepted into the Pro Bono Scholar Program
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; self-starter and highly motivated
- Demonstrated interest in social justice, immigrant rights, domestic violence issues or women’s issues
- Ability to ask questions and work humbly, collaboratively, and independently
- Knowledge of family, matrimonial, or immigration law, as well as fluency in another language, are helpful but not required
Position: Pro Bono Scholars will work full-time at the Her Justice office for 12 weeks. The position is hybrid and Pro Bono Scholars are expected to be in the office at least 2 days per week. Pro Bono Scholars will be provided with a company-owned laptop to be used exclusively for Her Justice-related work.
Pro Bono Scholars work under the supervision of Her Justice staff attorneys to support the Family-Matrimonial and Immigration Practice Groups.
