Law 360: $25 Child Support Minimum A Symbol Of ‘Broken’ NY System

New York’s child support system is in serious need of updating. Her Justice spoke with Law 360 to paint a picture of the hurdles embedded into the system and to share key parts of the solution. Director of Policy Rachel Braunstein provided data on the odds parents go up against when filing in Family Court — odds that could be improved if courts allowed for more accessible options for resolving child support.

One option Her Justice is leading the conversation on? Expedited conferences for parents who agree on support, so that these cases are resolved quickly and clear the courtroom pipeline for more difficult cases.

“You have a huge volume in an under-resourced court,” Rachel Braunstein told Law 360. “And it doesn’t make sense for what people need.”
